"It is so easy to get away from The rain! and cold!"

"Your house is my Home away from Home"

For the Touring Bike fraternity

We have spoken to some bikers in the uk and they have said " but you are so far away" What rubbish!,

the vast Majority of visitors descend here with just 1 overnight stop mid-france this gives you 2 days ride each roughly 370 miles long cruising at the speed limit would take less than 5 hours add a few fuel stops, lunch and a few tourist stops etc and it is easily done in less than 8 sociable hours. This though allows you to maximise your time in this region. Some have done Calais to this region in one hit but this I would suggest is only for the really keen types or where the piilion can take a turn in front.

There are many roads one can take to get here in the deep south but if you are coming from Calais there is very little in it between taking the Autoroute via Reims, Troyes, Dijon, Lyon, Nimes, Montpelier, Narbonne, Perpignan

Or

the Route from Calais , Paris, Orleans, Clermont Ferrand, Milau, Beziers, Narbonne, Perpignan except the latter route is much more scenic and it has the added bonus of the Millau Bridge, not to be missed!!!

We also know of quite a few very interesting scenic non motorway routes if you want us to help plan your route just ask!

Weather:

The region is blessed with the best weather in the whole of France, over 300 sunny days a year ! that compares with the Caribbean, and very little rain in fact in the last 14 months we have had just 34 days with rain. If you want to check out the current weather go to:

or

Of course the region can be a bit breezy from time to time but that just cools  one down in the summer. The temperatures at the height of summer can reach 40 degrees but generally are between 30-35 degrees and the sea temp of 28 degrees . The coldest months are January and February when temperatures can reach zero but normally rise to 10 degrees or more by lunchtime.

Air Travel

The area is served by Perpignan airport (15 minutes away), Gerona airport and Carcasonne airport( 1 hour), Perpignan station (10 minutes). Overnight Motor rail services are available from Northern France to Narbonne (approx 45 minutes) and Montpelier (approx 90 minutes), for those that don’t wish to drive/ride all the way.

In 2007 there will be  flights to Perpignan From Manchester (BMI baby), Birmingham (Fly be) Southampton (Flybe) as well as the regular flight from Stansted (Ryanair)  There are also many flights to Girona as well from Prestwick, Blackpool, Bournmouth, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow,  Liverpool, Luton, Shannon (all via Ryanair)  Tickets can be as little as £1 each way all one needs to do is jump on a flight and 2 hours later you can be riding the best roads in the world, or riding to the beach (20mins) and sunbathing the stress away. The most common agenda is to fly out on Thursday afternoon ride the region for 4 days and then return on Tuesday. Of course if you cant take that much time off you can still come out for just a day or two .
